Indians sign Harold Ramirez without categorical waivers

The Indians made another change to the roster to try and help their busy outfield, as the team signed Harold Ramirez outright waivers on Wednesday.

Ramirez signed with Miami as a Minor League free agent in November 2018 and opened the 2019 season by reaching .355 (39 for 110) for Triple-A New Orleans.

He performed well once he got the Majors’ call for Miami, hitting .276 (116 for 421) with 20 2G, 3 3G, 11 HR and 50 RBI in 119 games (.312 / .416 /. 728), make at least 19 starts from all three outfield positions and finish sixth among the NL rookies in hits.

He initially signed with Pittsburgh as an international amateur free agent in October 2011 and was later traded to Toronto in August 2016 ahead of his 2018 free agency.

Ramirez couldn’t keep up with the strong 2019 season as injuries stopped him last season and he ended up playing in just three games for Miami.

He missed pretty much all of 2020 after testing positive for COVID-19 and left hamstring strain.

The decision to add Ramirez to the roster meant another move had to be made, and the tribe nominated right-hander Jordan Humphreys for the assignment.

The Indians will start playing this coming weekend as the team are scheduled to play inter-team matches on Saturday and Sunday at Goodyear.
