July 21, 1921: Herb Hannah was born in Leoma, Tenn. Not only did he perform for the Crimson Tide, but he is the father of John and Charley Hannah.

July 21, 1965: At his annual summer media meeting, Paul “Bear” Bryant told the writers that his 1965 team would be “average at best.” Citing the fact that the team is only returning 18 letters and nine seniors, he notes that the team has an eight-game conference schedule and there is little hope of repeating themselves as SEC champions, and even less national champions. Bryant said there were a few players with chances of winning, including center Paul Crane, winger Ray Perkins and fullback Steve Bowman. – Bryant Museum
